St. Simon After School Technology Program

Computer Explorers provides software, curriculum, technology, and certified teachers to more than 25,000 students throughout the United States. The after-school programs at St. Simon are available to students in Grades 4-8 (grade 3 for selected classes). For Spring 2008, they are offering two classes: Robotics Club on Tuesdays, and Scratch Game and Story Building on Thursdays. Both classes will run from 3:00-4:45pm, for nine sessions. The class fee is $185.

Robotics Club - Tuesdays, April 8 - June 3
(Grades 4-8; all experience levels welcome)
Whether you are new to robotics or an old pro, the St. Simon Robotics Club has a place for you! Come build and program robots using the LEGO NXT robotics kit.

  • Pursue independent and group projects of various levels, with guidance from the teacher and experienced students.
  • Find out what it takes to be part of the St. Simon Robotics Team (coming this Fall), and practice some of the League challenges.

Scratch Game and Story Building - Thursdays, April 3 - June 5 (no class 4/24)
(Grades 3-8)
Imagine - Program - Share! Dive into the world of video game animation using Scratch, an exciting new programming environment created at the MIT Media Lab. (Ask the girls in the Girls' Tech Club how much fun they're having with Scratch!)

  • Create characters that dance, sing and interact with one another, then add sound effects and player controls.
  • Build stories, games, and animations and share your projects online so that your friends, your parents, even your grandmother can see and play them!
