Walk-a-thon 2008
Join us for the 2008 St. Simon Surf the Turf Walk-a-Thon on May 18th!
This year marks the seventh year for the St. Simon Surf the Turf Walk-a-Thon. Mark your calendars for another fun day in the sun with family, friends, and teachers. In the spirit of parish unity, this year we are cordially inviting the entire parish, especially Catechetical Ministry students from Preschool of Religion, CCM, Edge and LifeTeen to join us. Enjoy a wonderful bbq lunch, listen to fun tunes and get some great exercise while raising money for some wonderful causes!
General Information
The event will be held at the St. Francis High School track on May 18th, 12-3 pm. Check-in opens at 11 but the course opens at noon. The atmosphere is very festive. The entire family is sure to have a good time! Unfortunately, no strollers, umbrellas or dogs are allowed on the track. Please be safe as well- wear sunscreen, hats, visors and sunglasses and comfortable shoes and socks!
Where does the money go?
The Walk-a-Thon is organized by the St. Simon community to generate funds for the St. Simon Parent Advisory Group Teacher Fund and the Catechetical Ministry programs. The monies will be used to support ongoing teacher needs. Children from St. Simon School will raise money for the St. Simon PAG Teacher Fund. Each year, the St. Simon PAG Teacher Fund reimburses up to $2000 annually (for a full-time teacher, amount is amortized for part-time teachers and staff) for various teaching-related expenses such as classroom and curriculum materials and credential courses and training. Last year we raised over $32,000 for the Teacher Fund, with the participation of 325 students from St. Simon School.
Similarly, teachers for the CCM programs spend money out of their own pockets to enrich their catechism classes. With the Walk-a-thon, children and youth from the Parish Catechetical Ministry programs can raise money to help teachers enrich the classrooms and activities for Pre-School of Religion, CCM, EDGE, and LIFETEEN. St. Simon Parish has over 400 children and youth in these programs.
How you can help?
- Organize a group of walkers from your CCM class, or rally anybody from the school or parish to come. You can stop by at anytime, after baseball or softball games. Walk all afternoon or just for an hour! Don’t forget your sponsor and waiver form.
- Underwrite some of the prizes. It will help reduce our costs and maximize funds raised. Please click here for the form.
